Polina Nisenbaum

Experiences of displacement and historical transformation have shaped my understanding of impermanence and the fragility of cultural and social structures. Growing up in Ukraine during the final years of the Soviet Union and witnessing the fall of the Berlin Wall, Ukraine's independence, and later immigrating to the United States deepened my awareness of identity, adaptation, and the ways memory is carried across cultures. These experiences continue to inform my exploration of rebuilding, reimagining, and the continual transformation of cultural forms.

Bio

Polina Nisenbaum is a ceramic artist based in Stamford, Connecticut. Born and raised in Lviv, Ukraine, she studied drawing and painting from an early age before immigrating to the United States in 1994. She earned a degree from Parsons School of Design in New York City and worked as a graphic designer before beginning her ceramics practice in 2018 at Brick House Ceramic Art Center in Long Island City.

Since 2021, Nisenbaum has been an Associate Artist at Clay Art Center in Port Chester, New York, where she works primarily in porcelain.

Her work has been exhibited at Clay Art Center (Port Chester, NY), The Plaxall Gallery (Long Island City, NY), and The RAW Gallery at The Factory LIC (Long Island City, NY). She has participated in exhibitions including And the Earth Shall Set You Free (2019), Back to the Table (2020), Good Vibrations (2023), Come Together (2025), and Space and Time (2026).

Nisenbaum's work was featured in the Exposure section of Ceramics Monthly (April 2023).
